The Ghana Meteorological Agency has warned of widespread thunderstorms and rainfall across southern Ghana.
In a press release dated April 2, 2026, the Agency indicated that the storm system has already begun generating rain clouds over southeastern parts of the country, bringing thunderstorms of varying intensity to the Volta, Eastern and Greater Accra regions from Benin and Togo.
"With reference to the Afternoon forecast, the moderate rainstorm located offshore Benin and Togo has triggered rain clouds over the southeast and is producing localised thunderstorms or rain of varying intensity within the Volta, Eastern and Greater Accra regions.
"The rainstorm is expected to spread to more areas within the aforementioned regions and later to the Central and Ashanti regions," the statement said.
The weather is expected to worsen and extend into additional rains within these regions before moving toward the Central and Ashanti regions later in the day.

GMet cautioned that the storms could lead to flooding in low-lying areas, while gusty winds are also anticipated.
Between 1400 UTC and 1900 UTC, places including Ho, Koforidua, Nkawkaw, Aburi, Accra, Tema and Kasoa are expected to experience rainfall and thunderstorms.
The system will then advance between 1500 UTC and 2000 UTC to affect Assin Fosu, Twifo Praso, Tarkwa, Kumasi and Obuasi.
By late afternoon into the evening, from 1700 UTC to 2200 UTC, coastal and forest areas such as Winneba, Cape Coast, Saltpond, Axim and Sefwi Bekwai are also expected to be impacted.
The Ghana Meteorological Agency has placed the likelihood of the event above 60 percent, describing it as highly probable with a moderate level of impact.
