Samuel Atta Akyea, lawyer for former National Signals Bureau (NSB) Director-General, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, has put up a firm defence in court, arguing that the prosecution’s case will not hold up under close examination.

Adu-Boahene is standing trial on several charges, including causing financial loss to the state, money laundering, and theft, together with his wife, Angela Adjei Boateng.

The case relates to an alleged ¢49 million cybersecurity contract issue.

Addressing the media after court proceedings on April 2, 2026, Samuel Atta Akyea said his team is basing its arguments strictly on verifiable facts and will not present any fabricated claims.

“We will not invent one false story against the Economic and Organised Crime Office and, by extension, the Attorney General. Everything we are doing in this case will be dangerously factual so that nobody will say this is Atta Akyea’s or Kwabena Adu-Boahene’s invention,” he stated.

He added that the defence is confident and not alarmed by the charges, and is ready to contest the prosecution’s case.

“So, we’re not worried at all. At the end of the day, we will tear the prosecution’s case into shreds,” he added.

Atta Akyea further challenged the claims surrounding transactions linked to a UMB account, explaining that the account was connected to national security activities rather than personal use.

He maintained that the evidence before the court indicates the funds did not go into any private account belonging to his client, insisting that suggestions of diversion of state funds for personal gain are not supported by the facts.

“She went there as a national security operative to pay cheques. It has an account name and number, and it isn’t Adu-Boahene’s private account or number. So, what comical joke is this that Adu-Boahene has taken money from the state and hidden it in a private account and was enjoying it?” he questioned.
