The plaintiff seeks declaratory relief for negligence and breaches of the National Health Policy
A social worker, Nana Yaa Ampem Darkowah Otchere has initiated legal proceedings against the Bank Hospital in Cantoments, Accra, alleging negligence in surgical procedures intended to treat a diagnosed chest condition.
Filed on February 26, 2026, through her lawyers at Safo Katanka @ Law, the writ claims that Otchere was referred to the Bank Hospital from Ridge Hospital and diagnosed with Right Catomenial Pneumothorax, among other ailments.
According to a report by thelawplatform.online on April 2, 2026, the 29-paragraph Writ of Summons alleges that medical officers at the hospital initially informed her that her surgery had been successful, only for her to undergo the same procedure again due to continued complications.
Otchere claims that upon reviewing her post-operative x-rays, she discovered that the procedures had failed, contrary to assurances from the hospital.

She requested a transfer to the Cardiothoracic Centre at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, a move supported by a senior cardiothoracic surgeon, but alleges that the Bank Hospital failed to facilitate the transfer.
The writ further contends that the surgeries were performed at incorrect locations inches from her armpit instead of below her breast, where the procedures should have been conducted.
“The plaintiff is seeking declaratory relief for negligence and breaches of the National Health Policy (revised 2020), as well as, an order for GH¢4,000,000 in damages,” the report said.
In response, the Bank Hospital, through its lawyers Lithur Brew & Company led by Tony Lithur, entered an appearance on March 24, 2026, to contest the claims.
