A 25-year-old woman, Gueenata Yeho, is trying to rebuild her life after surviving a horrific attack that claimed the lives of her mother and younger sister in Nkwanta in March 2026.

Speaking in an emotional interview with Adom News, Gueenata recounted the terrifying moments that changed her life forever.

According to her, the incident happened around 11:00 p.m. while the family was asleep.

She said the night took a frightening turn when she heard unusual footsteps outside their home. Sensing danger, her mother quietly tapped her hand to alert her, an instinctive warning that something was wrong.

What followed was a nightmare. Unknown attackers reportedly forced their way into the room, poured petrol on them and launched a violent cutlass attack before setting the house on fire.

Despite sustaining injuries, Gueenata managed to escape through the flames. Tragically, her mother and younger sister were unable to make it out alive.

Now safe but deeply shaken, she says the trauma continues to affect her daily life. Sleep has become difficult, her appetite has dwindled and the memories of that night remain vivid and painful.

She also shared how the tragedy has changed her relationship with Nkwanta, a place she once frequented because of her mother but now struggles to return to due to the painful memories.

“They burnt my mother and my younger sister. We have lost everything. My father is already dead, and now my mother is gone,” she lamented.

With no immediate family support left, Gueenata is now appealing to the government, charitable organisations and individuals for help to continue her education, as she tries to find a way forward after the devastating loss.
