The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) is moving forward with ambitious plans to expand and modernise facilities at the Accra International Airport to enhance the travel experience.
According to a post by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister of Government Communications, on April 4, 2026, the current car park at Terminal 3, which accommodates up to 513 vehicles, has proven inadequate, causing congestion during peak hours.
To address this, government said GACL will begin construction mid-year on a new seven-storey, 2,000-bay parking facility.

“This new car park will significantly ease congestion and improve the experience for travelers,” Kwakye Ofosu said.
He added that additional features of the expansion will include 4,000m² of retail space for a shopping mall with restaurants, a sky-view lounge for observing flights, and a two-in-one airport hotel comprising a 250-room budget hotel and a 120-room luxury hotel for overnight stays of grounded flights.
The development will also include conference facilities and a business center.
In addition, GACL is set to begin work this month on an ultra-modern concourse connecting Terminals 2 and 3.
“The new concourse will ease congestion and provide world-class, high-end facilities for the traveling public,” Kwakye Ofosu noted.
The concourse will feature five new passenger boarding bridges, five passenger holding areas, bi-directional travelators, five new escalators and elevators, a VIP lounge, four business lounges, and four new retail and duty-free pods, among other amenities.
These upgrades, according to government reflect GACL’s ongoing efforts to modernise Ghana’s aviation infrastructure and provide a seamless travel experience for both domestic and international passengers.
