The cocoa farmer who went viral after claiming that President John Dramani Mahama owed them money because of the reduction, with what has become a famous phrase, "Mahama wo de yen ka," to wit, "Mahama, you owe us a debt," has now praised the president.

The farmer, in the viral video, was among many aggrieved cocoa farmers who were protesting against falling cocoa bean prices during an engagement with the Minority Caucus in Parliament in the Ashanti Region.

Given the platform to speak, the farmer, clad in a red cloth tied around his head as a symbol of protest, called out to the president, insisting that he owes them a huge debt.

According to him, President Mahama has failed to honour campaign promises to increase cocoa prices, insisting that the president "owes" farmers after pledging, while in opposition, to raise the price from GH¢31 million to about GH¢60 million, a promise he claims influenced their decision to vote for him.

A new video has emerged of the said cocoa farmer praising President Mahama after he received some money from the sale of his cocoa beans.

The new video showed him looking on as the cocoa merchant was counting some cash for him.

After receiving the cash, he exclaimed, “Eii, as for this, Mahama has done well. Well done. Receive my salute.”

The cocoa farmer, however, maintained that the president still owes them money.

“But remember the remaining one. That one even involves a lot of money. No matter what you do, ‘wo de yen ka’ - you still owe us,” he said.
