Ghana and France bolster ties as President Mahama begins official visit

President John Dramani Mahama has officially commenced his one-day working visit to France, signalling a renewed commitment to strengthening the bilateral and economic ties between Accra and Paris.

The visit began on Wednesday morning with a meeting with the President of the French Senate, Gerard Larcher. Upon his arrival, the President was received with a full military ceremony, a testament to the cordial and strategic relationship shared by the two nations.

During the bilateral session, President Mahama and Larcher engaged in extensive discussions focused on mutual interests. Key among the topics were the expansion of trade and investment, and a joint commitment to regional security and the global fight against terrorism.

The Senate President also highlighted France’s continued support for Ghana’s social and economic sectors, specifically in agriculture and maternal healthcare. Larcher commended the remarkable growth and resilience of the Ghanaian economy under the leadership of President Mahama.

Later today, the visit will shift to the Élysée Palace, where President Mahama is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with French President Emmanuel Macron. The two leaders are expected to deliberate on deepening diplomatic cooperation and addressing shared challenges.

President Mahama is accompanied by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prosper Bani, National Security Advisor, Dr Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, Joyce Mogtari, Presidential Advisor and Special Aide and Mavis Frimpong, Ghana’s Ambassador to France.
