The Ghana Police Service has foiled a planned robbery attack along the Ejura–Nkoranza highway in the Ashanti Region, leaving one suspect dead.
In a statement on Facebook on Friday, April 10, 2026, the police said the operation was carried out near Mimenaso No. 2 following intelligence gathered on the activities of a robbery gang.

“The Ghana Police Service has foiled a planned robbery attack along the Ejura–Nkoranza highway following an intelligence-led operation near Mimenaso No. 2 in the Ashanti Region,” the statement said.
The police explained that the operation took place on April 9, 2026, after officers moved to a bushy area where the gang had planned to ambush commuters.
“On 9th April 2026, an operational team acting on intelligence proceeded to a bush where a six-member robbery gang, led by one Mahamadu Fuseini also known as Shaini, was planning to ambush and rob commuters along that stretch,” the statement added.
According to the police, the suspects opened fire upon seeing the officers, mistaking them for their targets.
“As the Police team approached the location, the suspects, mistook them for potential targets, and opened fire. The team returned fire, during which one of the suspects was shot while the others, including the gang leader, escaped,” the statement noted.
The police said weapons and other items were retrieved from the scene after the exchange of gunfire.
“A pump action gun loaded with four live cartridges, two spent cartridges, and three assorted keypad mobile phones were retrieved from the scene,” the statement said.
“Two additional live cartridges were also found in the deceased suspect’s pocket, along with a talisman tied around his waist,” the statement added.

The police further confirmed that the body has been deposited at the morgue while a manhunt is underway for the remaining suspects.
“The body has since been deposited at the Atebubu Government Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy while efforts are underway to pursue and arrest the remaining suspects connected to this crime,” the statement said.
