GFA Technical Director, Winfried Schäfer
Former Black Stars Management Committee member, Kudjoe Fianoo has called on the Ghana Football Association to appoint Technical Director Winfried Schäfer as interim head coach of the national team.
His comments come in the wake of the dismissal of Otto Addo, following a string of disappointing results, capped by a 4-1 defeat to Austria and a 2-1 loss to Germany in an international friendly in Stuttgart.
Speaking to Kessben Sports, Fianoo stressed the urgency of the situation, warning that time is not on Ghana’s side ahead of crucial international assignments.
“We don’t have enough time on our side. The technical director at the GFA understands the Ghanaian terrain, so I’ll suggest we give him the national team to handle on an interim basis while we take our time to look for a new coach,” he said.
Fianoo noted that Schäfer’s familiarity with the national team setup and prior interest in the Black Stars job make him a suitable short-term option.
He further urged the GFA to avoid rushing into another long-term appointment, emphasizing the need for careful planning to secure a coach capable of leading the team across multiple cycles.
“We should take our time to do due diligence and find a coach who will take us through the short, medium and long term, because we’re becoming a country that appoints a new coach every year,” he added.
