A former United States President Barack Obama has lauded the crew of NASA’s Artemis II mission, describing their journey as a powerful demonstration of bravery and human ingenuity.

In a post shared on X on April 11, 2026, Obama commended the astronauts for their achievements during the 10-day mission, which saw them travel farther from Earth than any humans in history.

“What the Artemis II astronauts did over the last 10 days was a testament to their bravery,” he wrote.

He further highlighted the technical and physical challenges of the mission, noting that the crew successfully re-entered Earth’s atmosphere at speeds exceeding 24,000 miles per hour before safely splashing down.

“And the fact that they traveled farther from Earth than anyone ever has, re-entered our atmosphere at more than 24,000 mph, and splashed down safely was a testament to human ingenuity,” he added.

Obama also expressed appreciation to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) team for successfully executing the mission.

“Thanks to everyone at NASA for making this mission possible, and for taking us along for the ride,” the post said.

The Artemis II mission, a key step in NASA’s broader lunar exploration efforts, marked a significant milestone in humanity’s return to deep space, with the crew completing a historic flyby around the Moon before returning safely to Earth.

The mission is part of NASA’s long-term goal of advancing space exploration and paving the way for future crewed missions to the Moon and Mars.
