Most courts around the globe usually prefer to suspend trial of fugitives until they can be apprehended. In the case of Ofori-Atta, there's no need to try him absentia since Ghana knows where exactly he's residing, hence the the effort to have him extradited back to Ghana to stand trial. Ofori-Atta will eventually be brought back to Ghana to stand trial despite his devious and shameful attempt of feigning illness while also engaging in an adjustment of his immigration status in the USA, thinking that those steps will work to keep him from being extradited back to Ghana. Ofori-Atta had no sense of shame when he was helping to loot Ghana, nor does he have any sense of shame as he gets paraded in immigration detention in the USA.
