Unidentified armed men reportedly disrupted a University for Development Studies (UDS) Council meeting on April 13, 2026, where members were in the process of selecting a new Vice Chancellor.
The Council was reportedly reviewing three shortlisted candidates when the process was suddenly interrupted in the afternoon.
A report by myjoyonline.com indicates that the men walked into the meeting space and insisted that the Council should not proceed with any decision.
Two of the individuals were said to have been armed with pistols, raising questions about how they were able to access and locate the closed-door session.
“They walked to the Chairman, who later placed a call to someone we don’t know, and the meeting was brought to an abrupt end.
“My question is, how did they know where the meeting was being conducted, and where was the security? I believe it was planned,” the source told JoyNews.

The source also referenced a similar incident in 2021 involving the same appointment process, arguing that tighter security should have been put in place to prevent a repeat.
“From what happened in 2021, they should have beefed up security to ensure this doesn’t happen again,” the source said.
