Legendary Ghanaian sports journalist, Kwabena Yeboah has said that Carlos Queiroz is the best coach ever appointed to lead the Black Stars.
According to him, the Portuguese coach has extensive management experience, having led major European clubs and national teams to numerous international tournaments.
He indicated that this is the best coach the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has ever appointed and deserves plaudits.
7 facts you must know about new Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz
Speaking in an interview with Angel FM, Kwabena Yeboah noted that nobody can question the appointment because he believes Queiroz is the best man for the Black Stars job.
“For me, from the record, in the history of Ghana football, I don’t think the FA has ever appointed a coach with a better CV than Carlos Queiroz. Since the inception of Ghana football, I don’t think there has been any coach with a better CV. He’s seen it all. He was once an assistant manager to Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United. He has been to the World Cup on several occasions. He qualified South Africa for the 2002 World Cup, led Portugal to the 2010 World Cup, and managed Iran at the World Cup twice. So I do not think anybody can question the wisdom in appointing Carlos Queiroz,” he said.
The veteran sports journalist cautioned, however, that Queiroz’s extensive experience does not guarantee the Black Stars will deliver good results or impressive performances.
“That is far from suggesting that once we have him, everything will be rosy. Far from that. My view about coaching is different. I believe footballers play football, and coaches don’t. Coaches are important, but not decisive. Footballers define coaches; coaches don’t define footballers. So let’s not deceive ourselves into thinking that because Carlos Queiroz is experienced and has seen it all, the Black Stars will suddenly be transformed into a super team. But I think he’s going to do a good job,” he added.
Kwabena Yeboah continued: “He needs the cooperation of all of us. And I do hope that within the limited period at his disposal, he will be able to put the team together. The truth of the matter is that this coach doesn’t really know our team. So, within this limited period, he must identify those he believes should make his starting lineup, those who will be on the bench, the system he will play, and whether it will differ from what the previous coach used.”
