Wonder Madilo is a development analyst and member of the NDC Communications Team
A development analyst and member of the NDC Communications Team, Wonder Madilo, has stated that arrests of individuals who breach the law are not new, emphasising that such actions have occurred under successive governments.
His comments follow the arrest of Kwame Baffoe Abronye over publications he allegedly made on Facebook.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bono Regional Chairman was picked up again by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service over allegations of offensive conduct conducive to a breach of the peace, false publication, and conduct likely to cause fear and panic.
The arrest was also linked to alleged threats directed at a judge at the Adenta Circuit Court, according to sources familiar with the investigation.
Abronye arrested again by Police CID - Reports
Reacting to the arrest on JoyNews AM Show on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, Madilo explained that individuals who offend the law have consistently been arrested across different administrations.
He cited the era of former President John Agyekum Kufuor to support his argument, noting that such enforcement actions are not new trends.
Madilo further stated that the police have a duty to invite suspects, take statements, and determine whether published information is false and capable of disturbing public peace.
Abronye released
He stressed that where the law is breached, enforcement must follow.
“This has been happening for many years now, from President Kufuor’s time to date. When people offend the law in this manner, they’re arrested. The key issue is that he should be treated with human dignity. That’s all. Very simply,” Madilo said.
He added that while the police must act within the law, the rights of individuals should not be disregarded.
According to him, suspects may be granted bail or released on self-recognisance depending on the circumstances.
“I don’t think the police will keep him for no reason. It will certainly be based on the law. He can be granted bail if the matter goes to court, or the police may grant him self-recognisance,” he explained.
