Policemen who shot and killed Tema MoMo robbers promoted

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted seven officers of the Tema Regional Police Command to their next ranks for their roles in a recent anti-robbery operation at Tema.

According to a police statement dated Wednesday, April 15, 2026, the promotion follows the officers’ response to a robbery attack on a Mobile Money vendor at Tema Community 5, which led to the shooting of two suspected robbers and the recovery of a firearm, ammunition, and other items.

“The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, yesterday 14th April 2026, promoted seven officers of the Tema Regional Police Command to their next ranks for their role in a recent anti-robbery operation in Tema.

“The promotions were awarded to officers who responded to a robbery attack on a Mobile Money vendor at Tema Community 5 leading to the shooting of two robbery suspects and the recovery of a firearm, ammunition, and other exhibits,” portions of the statement read.

The officers promoted are Chief Inspector Enoch Nartey Nuer, Inspector Gershon Dekpey, Inspector Prince Asante, Sergeant Lukman Mohammed, Sergeant Eugene Kuudouru, Corporal Jerome Akator and Lance Corporal Jonathan Sewurah.

The IGP, together with members of the Police Management Board, commended the officers for their conduct.

He urged them to see the promotion as a call to higher responsibility.

“The IGP urged the officers to view their promotion as a call to higher responsibility and encouraged all personnel to continue working with dedication and professionalism in the service of the nation,” the statement added.

The incident that led to the promotion occurred on Monday, April 13, 2026, at about 8:30 AM at Aba Fosuah Plaza at Tema Community 5.

According to the police, two suspects arrived on a motorbike, with one posing as a customer who wanted to make a cash-out transaction.

The suspect pulled a pistol and demanded the vendor’s bag of cash when she reached for her phone.

A struggle followed as the second suspect joined in, during which the female vendor was shot in the leg. The suspects took the cash and fled the scene.

A patrol team from the Tema Regional Operations Unit later intercepted the suspects near the Tema General Hospital area, but they failed to stop and led police on a chase towards the Smart Hotel area.

Police said the suspects opened fire during the chase, prompting officers to return fire.

The suspects in the course of fire exchange, got wounded, causing them to fall from their motorbike.

A search on the suspects led to the recovery of GH¢11,390 believed to be the stolen money, a black 9mm pistol loaded with four rounds of ammunition, three Android phones, assorted SIM cards, a talisman, and a Ghana Card belonging to the victim.

Police also retrieved an empty bullet shell from the scene.

Meanwhile, the injured vendor is currently in stable condition and receiving treatment.
