The teachers captured chanting President Mahama and Haruna Iddrisu's names
Unpaid teachers converged at Obra Spot in Accra on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, to protest months of salary arrears and administrative delays.
In a video shared on Facebook and sighted by GhanWeb, the teachers were seen chanting the names of John Dramani Mahama and Haruna Iddrisu, calling on them to address their concerns.
They were heard chanting, “Mahama wode yɛ ka; Haruna wo de yɛ ka. Wotwi womu taen, wo de yɛ ka,” translated as, “Mahama, you owe us; Haruna, you owe us. No matter what you do, you still owe us.”
The protest, which drew large numbers of affected educators, highlighted grievances over unpaid salaries for up to 17 months, as well as delays in the issuance of staff identification numbers.
Unpaid teachers begin massive protests April 15
A statement issued on April 15, 2026, by the National Organiser of the Coalition of Unpaid Teachers, Eugene Zoranu Segbefia, announced plans for an indefinite protest at the Ministry of Finance, Ghana, if the government fails to present a clear payment plan.
According to a report by adomonline.com on April 15, 2026, Segbefia revealed that some teachers have worked between seven and 18 months without pay, describing the situation as dire.
“We have teachers who have worked between seven and 18 months without salaries. As we speak, we don’t even know whether the government will fulfil its obligation to us,” he lamented.

He added that despite several engagements with key stakeholders, including the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education Ghana, there has been no clear timeline for the payment of arrears.
