The Communications Spokesperson for the Energy Ministry, Richmond Rockson, says government’s decision to reduce fuel prices shows its commitment to easing the burden on Ghanaians.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express programme on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, he said the move by the John Dramani Mahama administration is aimed at supporting citizens as global economic pressures continue to affect fuel prices.

“This shows clearly that the Mahama government is people-centred and responsive to the needs of Ghanaians,” he stated.

His comments follow government’s announcement of temporary measures to cushion consumers against rising fuel prices caused by changes on the international petroleum market.

Under the policy, government will absorb GH¢2 per litre on diesel and GH¢0.36 per litre on petrol, starting from April 16, 2026.

Rockson said the move will help reduce the pressure on households, transport operators and businesses who are already dealing with high costs.

“When global shocks threaten livelihoods, a responsible government must step in to protect its people, and that is exactly what this administration has done,” he said.

He added that the measure will be reviewed after one month as government continues to monitor the situation and decide on the next steps.
