The financial troubles Cocobod finds itself is not entirely due to the world market price,the artificial strength of the cedi is a factor,Cocobod fixed the producer price and expenditure budget based on Ghc15.00/$1.00 then BAM the cedi appreciates toGhc10/$1.00,the cedi equivalent of the export earnings of Cocobod like all other exporters reduced by 30.33%, the cedi on steroids has serious ramifications but is being pursued for propaganda reasons,it is creating employment to foreign countries whilst killing local industries,that is all the economist is telling us,insulting him means you're stark illiterate in economics and prone to swallowing any bullshit thrown at you by NDC propagandists.

A few years ago, the Ghana Cedi to the US Dollar was Ghc0.98 to the US$. So how could the current Ghc11.00 to the US$ rate be interested to be a stronger Ghana Cedi. Consider some comparative figures: the UAE currency has maintained its value over the last 30 or more year at Dhs3.66 to the US$. The variation in the case of other countries have a range up to 30% and the like.

Sadly the cedi has plummeted from Ghc0.98 to a height of Ghc17.00 US$1.00

So the cedi is just simply recovering and not getting stronger.

Our cedi has appreciated- it is a very good thing but export is struggling - yes - so? That is the way it goes. Rather have a strong cedi than a weak one when inflation goes to the roof. Now what we have to do is maintain the cedi’s value so exports can rise and maintain. It is the fluctuations of the cedi that is the issue- once we can maintain it we are good to go. Kudos to President Mahama and you team.

Other sources for foreign exchange is Cocoa and rubber which we export. Stronger cedi means less income for Cocoa and rubber farmers & we all know what Cocoa farmers going through now. Many of Cocoa and rubber farmers are destroying and selling lands to galamseyers. So instead of increasing rubber and cocoa farms to support foreign exchange generations & the cedi shd the gold price drop it is the opposite.
Question we shd all be asking ourselves is what is the country’s plan/strategy to sustain positive things we are seeing now shd the gold price drop.
