The Ghana Police Service has revealed that the robbery gang behind the deadly attack on the Berekum Chelsea team bus is also connected to other high-profile incidents, including the Nkawie robbery and the Fufuso mobile money vendor attack.

According to police, the link emerged during the interrogation of a key suspect and alleged gang leader, Mohammed Ahmed, also known as “I Can Do,” who reportedly confessed to participating in multiple robberies.

“During interrogation, suspect Mohammed Ahmed admitted involvement in several robberies, including the Nkawie robbery, the Fufuso mobile money vendor attack, and the attack on Berekum Chelsea FC.

“He further mentioned accomplices identified as Dauda, Huefe and AT, who are currently on the run,” the police said in a statement dated April 16, 2026.

The development follows a special intelligence-led operation by the Ghana Police Service, which led to the arrest of two suspects in connection with the robbery attack on the Ahyiresu-Kwame Dwumor Sreso (KDS) road in the Nyinahin District on April 12, 2026.

The attack resulted in the death of Dominic Frimpong, a player of Berekum Chelsea FC.

Police said the Inspector-General of Police subsequently deployed a team of intelligence officers to support a manhunt for the perpetrators, leading to the arrest of Mohammed Ahmed and another suspect, Bawa Gideon, at Atimatim in Kumasi on April 15, 2026.

The suspects reportedly attempted to flee and opened fire on police during the operation.

Items retrieved from them include a pistol loaded with two rounds of 32 ammunition, eleven BB cartridges, a locally manufactured firearm, pepper spray, desert boots, mobile phones, and a black pullover.

The police have since declared three other suspects, Dauda, Huefe, and AT, wanted and are appealing to the public for information on their whereabouts.
