The three drivers were rescued with the assistance of the public
Three persons sustained injuries after a fuel tanker collided with two vehicles at Ahodwo, near Ridge Condos in Kumasi, on Thursday, April 16, 2026.
According to a statement from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the accident involved a fuel tanker with registration number GT 8073-22, a Kia Morning (AS 310-21), and a Hyundai Santa Fe (DV-D1517).
The three drivers were rescued with the assistance of members of the public and transported to hospital for treatment.
The tanker driver’s mate, however, escaped unhurt.
The GNFS reported that the Kia Morning was extensively damaged, while the tanker head, the Hyundai Santa Fe, and 18 vehicles at a nearby auto sales garage sustained partial damage.
Firefighters, with support from the police, secured the scene, managed traffic, controlled crowds, and prevented fuel siphoning.
The first response team from the Kejetia Fire Station, led by STNO II Awudu, quickly brought the situation under control.
Reinforcements from the Regional Headquarters continued cooling operations on the tanker’s 54,000-litre petrol load to avert any potential fire or explosion.
Cooling efforts were maintained until a GNFS recovery truck safely towed the tanker from the scene.
A Mercedes-Benz and several other affected vehicles were also successfully salvaged.
The area was subsequently cleared of hazards, traffic flow restored, and the scene declared safe.
No fatalities were recorded, and the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
