The Board Chairman of GCB Bank PLC, Professor Joshua Alabi, says the bank is pursuing a clear strategy to emerge as the undisputed leader in Ghana’s banking sector.

“Our ambition is clear; to make GCB the undisputed leader in the banking industry,” he stated, adding that the strategy is anchored on growth, innovation, and competitiveness.

He made the remarks at the bank’s 23rd Annual General Meeting held on Friday, April 17, 2026, noting that the ambition is supported by deliberate reforms undertaken over the past year.

“We understood clearly that GCB Bank is not just another financial institution. It is a strategic national asset… We also recognised that the bank possesses significant untapped potential,” he said.

According to him, management has focused on restructuring, process improvements, and digital transformation to position the bank for long-term competitiveness.

“We have placed technology at the very centre of our operations, recognising that the future of banking will be driven by digital capability and innovation,” he noted.

Professor Alabi added that GCB’s ambitions extend beyond the domestic market, with plans to strengthen its regional footprint and become a preferred banking partner across key West African markets.

Despite ongoing reforms, he said the bank delivered strong financial performance in 2025, reflecting customer confidence and operational discipline.

“These numbers reflect the continued confidence of our customers and the strength of our franchise,” he said.

He further noted that improvements in risk management had strengthened the bank’s position, including a reduction in non-performing loans.

Looking ahead, he said enhancing investor relations would be a key priority in 2026.

“One of our key priorities in 2026 will be to strengthen our investor relations strategy,” he stated.

He also confirmed that regulatory approval had been secured for the payment of dividends for the 2025 financial year.

“Your concerns are our concerns, and your satisfaction remains our priority,” he assured shareholders.

Professor Alabi concluded that all reforms and strategic initiatives are aimed at one goal, positioning GCB Bank as the undisputed leader in the banking industry and delivering sustainable long-term value.
