Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng (A Plus), has called on the government to collapse Ghana's Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), insisting that the fight against corruption should be returned to the Attorney General's office.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb's Elsie Lamar, he argued that the OSP has failed to achieve its intended purpose and should be scrapped.

“Because the Attorney-General… they should just collapse the OSP. Let’s just collapse it. Yesterday, I met somebody, and he was fighting with someone over something. And I said, ‘Listen, they will do it regardless. Don’t stress yourself. Look, I’ve stopped fighting for Ghana. I’m fighting for Ghanaians who believe in me,” A Plus said.

He continued, “Understand me, because they will do it regardless. The OSP, let’s just collapse it. Let’s go back to factory settings, where we used to have the Attorney-General and say let’s just forget this corruption fight and move on. Look, when you read CIA files and you see the amount of money that was stolen from Kwame Nkrumah’s time till we established the OSP, Ghana would have collapsed long ago.”

A Plus also questioned the rationale behind creating an independent anti-corruption body.

“Why would we set up an institution that is mandated by law to fight corruption as an independent body, and then we want to destroy it and come back to the everyday Attorney-General? Let’s just do it,” he stated.

He concluded with a call to redirect focus toward development.

“Don’t stress. Look, all of you follow me. Let’s go to Gomoa. Let’s go and build a city. Let’s build nice houses there. Leave Accra for them. Let them do it. One day, we will have the power to change a lot of things,” he added.
