Indigenous mining firm Engineers and Planners (E&P), led by its founder and Chief Executive Officer Ibrahim Mahama, has officially taken over the Damang Mine in a ceremony held on Saturday, April 18, 2028.

The event took place at the mine site in Damang, where the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, led by Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, formally handed over the concession to E&P following its successful bid.

The company will manage the Damang Mine for a specified period in line with its agreement with the government.

Addressing the gathering, Ibrahim Mahama expressed gratitude for the opportunity and reaffirmed his commitment to infrastructure and community development.

Ibrahim Mahama pledges airport in 6 months, Damang-Cape Coast road in two years

“If we all put our minds together, this is a success story. What I have planned for Damang is not a joke. I just want to prove that we can invest in ourselves in this country,” he said.

He pledged to construct a concrete road from Damang to Cape Coast within two years and an airport within six months.

“We have applied for Damang to have an airport, and within six months we should have it, such that we can fly to Accra easily. In the next two years, we should also be able to drive from Damang to Cape Coast on a concrete road,” he said.

He stressed that the commitments were practical and not political promises, adding, “I beg you, this is not political talk, this is real talk.”

He also announced plans to build hospitals in the area to improve healthcare delivery and support residents, as well as construct his personal residence in the community.

“I also want to build my own personal house here so I can live with you. Thank you very much for giving me this platform,” he added.

According to him, the planned investments will support mining operations while also improving livelihoods and economic activity in surrounding communities.

The Government of Ghana officially handed over the Damang Mine lease to Engineers & Planners Ltd (E&P) on April 18, 2026, following the completion of processes to transfer control of the mine from Gold Fields Limited to the Ghanaian-owned firm.

The move is aimed at deepening local ownership of strategic mineral assets and strengthening domestic participation in large-scale mining operations.

The handover followed confirmation that E&P was the successful bidder for the Damang Mining Lease after a competitive tender process overseen by the Minerals Commission.
