The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has announced that it will begin arresting and prosecuting individuals using fake, forged, or expired DV number plates and DP stickers starting Monday, May 4, 2026.

The directive follows an earlier public notice issued on March 19, 2026, warning of a nationwide clampdown on the use of expired 2025 DV plates, forged 2026 DV plates, and outdated DP stickers.

Initial enforcement began on March 24, 2026, with authorities focusing on the removal of non-compliant plates and stickers.

According to the DVLA, its Compliance Team, working alongside the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service, has carried out targeted operations across several locations. However, the Authority says some vehicle users continue to disregard the regulations.

The DVLA warned that under Regulation 23(11) of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (LI 2180), it is illegal to possess or use forged or fake trade licences, including DV and DP plates and stickers.

As a result, the Authority said it is escalating enforcement measures, with offenders to face arrest and prosecution from May 4.

It added that the move is aimed at strengthening compliance, protecting the integrity of vehicle registration systems, and enhancing road safety.

The DVLA is urging all vehicle users to regularise their documentation and comply fully with the law to avoid sanctions.
