Renowned lawyer Martin Kpebu clashed with New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Suame, John Darko, on live TV on Saturday, April 18, 2026.

During a panel discussion on TV3’s The KeyPoints, John Darko made a comment about the High Court judge who ruled that the Office of the Special Prosecutor cannot prosecute cases without the authorisation of the Attorney General, which did not sit well with Kpebu.

“For a High Court judge to prepare to act as if he's sitting on the Supreme Court is, for me, completely unacceptable. High Courts are courts of coordinate jurisdictions. He cannot order another High Court judge to stop hearing the matter because of his misapprehension of this particular law.

“In fact, the judge, I don't know what he was on, because if you look at,” the NPP MP was saying, but his comments forced a reaction from the other panellist on the programme.

Martin Kpebu, in particular, was not so happy with Darko’s remarks and accused him of trying to “run the judge down”.

He told Darko to stay “humble” because the said judge was his senior and had a better track record.

“You’re just giving your opinion, so don’t run him down. Don’t get emotional; he is far too senior to you. He even has a better track record than you.

“It is not an attack… It is a question of profile that Darko has not made his mark at the bar. The fact that you are on TV doesn’t mean that you can say anything. So, slow down, you haven’t made your mark at the bar,” Kpebu said.

The Suame legislator then hit back at Kpebu, insinuating that he (Kpebu) had been bewitched, which led to the other panellist on the programme breaking into laughter.

“Really, is that how you are supposed to act… I think you are completely out of order.

“Martin, whoever is doing this to you, I think you need to go and see him… somebody is doing something to him,” he said.
