GFL raises concerns about AG's department hobnobbing with NPP elements

The Secretary-General of the Ghana Federation of Labour, Abraham Koomson, has expressed concern over what he describes as growing pressure on the Attorney-General and his deputy, warning that both officials appear overwhelmed by the demands of the office.

According to Koomson, internal challenges within the Attorney-General’s Department are affecting its efficiency and ability to deliver on its mandate.

Speaking on Ahotor FM on Saturday, April 18, he alleged that some state attorneys are not fully aligned with the leadership of the office, creating difficulties in the execution of legal responsibilities.

He further claimed that a number of lawyers within the department have affiliations with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), raising concerns about trust, cohesion, and cooperation within the institution.

Koomson warned that such divisions could delay key prosecutions, including those linked to the government’s anti-corruption initiative, Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL).

To address the situation, he called for a strategic reassignment of legal personnel, suggesting that experienced and committed lawyers be deployed to the Attorney-General’s Department to help accelerate prosecutions.

He also urged the National Democratic Congress Council of Elders to intervene, stressing that the body has a critical role to play in ensuring the success of the government’s legal and anti-corruption agenda.
