The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has tasked Engineers and Planners (E&P) to invest heavily in the Damang Mine following their successful takeover.
He noted that E&P has proven efficient in the mining sector and encouraged the company to deliver quality work, adding that government will closely monitor its progress.
The Minister emphasised that he expects the company to invest in social infrastructure such as schools, roads, and hospitals, while also creating opportunities for local communities to improve their livelihoods.
“It is not an afterthought. It is our priority. Ours is to ensure that as the mine grows, so must the hospitals, the schools, the roads, and all the opportunities in our neighbourhood. E&P is not a stranger to this space. Since 2002, they have been the technical managers behind Damang’s operations. By selecting a wholly Ghanaian-owned entity with a proven track record, we have ensured that no job will be lost, every valid contract will be honoured, and that the mine will run without interruption,” he said.

Armah-Kofi Buah stressed that E&P’s takeover reflects government’s commitment to ensuring that Ghana’s natural resources are managed by indigenes so that citizens benefit directly.
“By this decision, we have also ensured that a resource governance reset is realised. We are the owners, the managers, and the visionaries. This is an economic necessity long advocated by Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah. We believe that Ghanaians have built enough expertise over decades to handle their own resources,” he added.
The Government of Ghana officially handed over the Damang Mine lease to Engineers & Planners Ltd (E&P) on April 18, 2026, following the completion of processes to transfer control of the mine from Gold Fields Limited to the Ghanaian-owned firm.
The move is aimed at deepening local ownership of strategic mineral assets and strengthening domestic participation in large-scale mining operations.
