Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has held high-level discussions with GB Foods in Barcelona, aimed at strengthening Ghana’s agro-processing sector and boosting value addition within the tomato value chain.

The meeting, which formed part of her official engagements in Barcelona, focused on expanding investment opportunities, enhancing local production and creating jobs, while ensuring Ghanaian tomato farmers are fully integrated into the value chain.

GB Foods, a subsidiary of Agrolimen, has an established presence in Ghana’s food processing industry. Engagement with the company is seen as critical to advancing government’s broader agenda of industrialisation through agriculture-led growth.

Discussions centred on leveraging partnerships to promote agro-processing and reduce Ghana’s reliance on imported tomato products. Particular emphasis was placed on strengthening linkages between farmers and processors to ensure sustainable livelihoods and improved productivity.

The engagement also reaffirmed the longstanding bilateral relations between Ghana and Spain, with both sides expressing commitment to deepening mutually beneficial cooperation.

Government reiterated its resolve to create an enabling environment for private sector investment, positioning the agriculture sector as a key driver of economic transformation.

The integration of local farmers into structured value chains remains central to efforts to enhance food security, drive industrial growth and generate employment.
