The Black Queens are now ranked 59th in the world
Ghana women's national football team, The Black Queens, have recorded an encouraging rise in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings, climbing from 62nd to 59th globally in the April 2026 update.
The upward movement reflects a team gradually finding consistency again after years of rebuilding.
On the African continent, Ghana remain 3rd, sitting behind Nigeria and South Africa in the CAF rankings.
A key driver of this improvement has been their strong showing at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where the Black Queens secured a bronze medal.

That performance significantly boosted their ranking points and restored confidence within the squad.
Beyond that, Ghana’s qualification campaign for the 2026 WAFCON was dominant, with a commanding 7–0 aggregate win over Egypt highlighting both their attacking threat and improved organisation.
Since the arrival of coach Kim Björkegren, the team has also taken clear tactical steps forward.
There has been better structure in build-up play, improved movement in the final third, and a more controlled approach in matches.
International exposure has also played a role, with friendly tournament appearances such as the Pink Ladies Cup helping to test the team against non-African opposition.
Wins over Russia and Hong Kong underlined their growing confidence on that stage.
The current ranking marks Ghana’s best position since 2019, although still short of their historical peak of 42nd in 2008.
