Abena Osei-Asare is the Chairperson of the Public Account Committee of Parliament
The Public Accounts Committee has asked the Sunyani West Municipal Assembly to refund a total of GH¢116,000 after it was cited for the illegal transfer of public funds as end-of-service benefits to some members of staff.
According to a report by citinewsroom.com, the issue came up during the committee's siting on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, where the assembly admitted that it transferred GH¢135,000 for the said purpose without authorisation.
According to officials of the assembly, who appeared before the committee, GH¢19,000 out of the amount has already been refunded, leaving a balance of GH¢116,000.
The Chairperson of the Public Account Committee, Abena Osei-Asare, therefore, directed that the remaining amount be paid within 30 days.
She warned that failure to comply with the directive could result in further sanctions.
