The Postal and Courier Services Regulatory Commission has clarified that motorbikes seized during its recent enforcement exercises will only be returned after owners settle the prescribed fines and complete the necessary licensing requirements.

The Commission stressed that riders who operate without valid permits issued by the regulator are in breach of the law and are subject to penalties.

This follows a recent crackdown in Accra, where close to 100 unlicensed courier motorbikes were confiscated.

The operation forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with earlier directives mandating courier operators to register, obtain licences, and be incorporated into the national courier management system.

Speaking in an interview on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, the Commission’s Public Relations Manager, Edwin Nii Yeboah Burgesson, indicated that affected riders must first pay the required penalties before their bikes can be released. He added that, afterward, they will be assisted to regularise their operations.

He explained that the enforcement drive is intended to ensure that all courier and delivery riders function within the established regulatory framework.

Burgesson further stated that the Commission will continue to carry out surprise inspections across different locations to enforce compliance.

He also noted that the exercise is being undertaken in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service to help maintain order and support the enforcement process.

According to him, under the law establishing the Commission, any motorbike impounded for operating without the required licence attracts a fine, and only those who meet these conditions will have their bikes returned while being guided through the process to formalise their operations.
