A young man from Bekwai, identified as Boakye, has sparked a family dispute after demanding a DNA test to confirm the paternity of a one-month-old baby he believes may not be his.

Boakye, who describes himself as a small-scale miner, said he began a relationship with his partner, Maadwoa, while she was in junior high school, and supported her through to the completion of her senior high education.

However, he claims the timeline of the pregnancy raised concerns.

“We had an affair before she went back to school, but just a week later she told me she was already four months pregnant. I didn’t deny responsibility, but it made me suspicious,” he said.

His doubts intensified after he allegedly came across a viral video showing Maadwoa in a hotel room with another man.

“A friend showed me a video of her with another man. When I confronted her, she admitted she was in a relationship with him. I decided to take care of the pregnancy, but planned to do a DNA test after the child was born,” Boakye explained.

Despite his stated willingness to support the child, Boakye says his request for a DNA test has been rejected by Maadwoa and her mother, who have also denied him access to the baby.

Frustrated by the situation, he took the matter to Afisem on Lawson TV, a programme known for mediating domestic disputes.

Speaking on the show, Maadwoa admitted to having had a relationship with the man in the video but defended her actions.

“Yes, I had something to do with him, but I needed help to take care of my unborn child because Boakye had initially denied responsibility,” she said.

Her mother also justified their refusal to allow the DNA test, alleging that Boakye had insulted her and taken unauthorised photos of the child.

“He took pictures of the baby without my consent, and that angered me. That is why I blocked him from doing the DNA test,” she stated.

The case remains unresolved, with Boakye insisting on a DNA test to establish paternity, while Maadwoa and her family continue to resist the request, leaving the matter unresolved amid the tension.
