Prince Ganaku, legal counsel for Frank Oliver Kpodo, has disclosed that his client is considering legal action against The Fourth Estate over a publication that wrongly linked him to a GH¢427 million payroll irregularity.

Speaking in an interview on Eyewitness News on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, Ganaku described the report as misleading and damaging, indicating that legal options, including defamation, are being seriously considered.

According to him, the issue was not only the reliance on audit findings but also how the story was presented to the public.

“It is one thing if he had done it… The Fourth Estate did not serve as sort of secretaries or mouthpieces for the auditor. The way the article was put, even the post on X, was framed to make people believe he was guilty,” he said.

Ganaku argued that the publication contributed to widespread public backlash and reputational harm, affecting both Kpodo and his family.

“The reputational harm that he has suffered, the questions his children have had to face in school, he is definitely considering legal action… defamation is one of the options we will look at,” he added.

The controversy stemmed from a nationwide payroll audit conducted by the Office of the Auditor-General, which initially appeared to link Kpodo to GH¢427,995,661.40 in unearned salaries.

The figure, widely circulated following the report by The Fourth Estate, suggested he had received an average of more than GH¢14 million monthly.

However, the Auditor-General later clarified that the amount was due to a transpositional error and did not relate to Kpodo. Instead, it referred to unaccounted staff under the Ministry of Education.
