Daniel Gaspar is expected to be named as the goalkeeping coach for the BLACK Stars
When Carlos Queiroz steps onto the shores of Ghana this week, he will not be coming alone.
True to a career built on trusted alliances, the veteran Portuguese tactician is expected to arrive with a familiar and experienced backroom staff, one that includes American-Portuguese goalkeeping specialist Daniel Gaspar.
Gaspar’s appointment as Black Stars goalkeepers’ coach signals a significant shift in Ghana’s technical setup following the departure of Otto Addo after the March 2026 international friendlies.
The Ghana Football Association’s decision to turn to Queiroz marks a new era, and with it comes a reliance on a coaching network that has been tested across continents and competitions.

Few figures embody that continuity more than Gaspar. Since 1992, he has worked closely with Queiroz in multiple roles, goalkeeping coach, assistant, and technical adviser, across both club and international football.
Their partnership has spanned stints with national teams such as Portugal, Iran, Colombia, and Egypt, as well as club assignments, building a reputation for defensive organization and disciplined goalkeeping structures.
Gaspar is widely respected for his methodological approach to goalkeeper development, blending modern sports science with traditional shot-stopping fundamentals.
His arrival is expected to bring renewed competition and structure to Ghana’s goalkeeping department.
Queiroz, who will be officially unveiled on Thursday, April 23, 2026, is also expected to name Roger De Sa as his assistant, further reinforcing a technical bench rich in experience.
However, the reshuffle may come at a cost for current goalkeepers’ coach Fatau Dauda, who, according to reports, will be reassigned to an assistant role.
