Former Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi
Former Nigerian footballer, Mikel Obi has criticized the way Chelsea’s owners and management are handling affairs at the club amid their struggles.
He stated that the recognition Chelsea once had as a club competing for trophies with brilliant results has now shifted to disastrous performances.
The former Chelsea midfielder noted that the challenges begin with the owners, BlueCo, a consortium led by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital (headed by Behdad Eghbali), and the management, whose decisions have cost the team dearly and hindered progress.

Speaking on The Obi One Podcast, Mikel Obi further fumed that head coach Liam Rosenior and the players are also part of the problems that need to be fixed urgently.
“Chelsea Football Club is not that club. This is a football club that’s been built as a machine to win, to keep winning, to keep being successful. And in the past few years, the acceptance of becoming this yo-yo football club is what is happening right now. From top to bottom, the owners, the manager, the players. If it’s not working at the top, if the people at the top are not there for the right reasons, if they don’t care whether the team wins or not, then it becomes a different football club,” he said.
The former Super Eagles captain also questioned the decision to appoint Liam Rosenior as head coach, whose future remains uncertain due to poor results.
“They are still not sure. And right now, what message are you sending to the players? What message are you sending to the fans and to the people who absolutely love the football club when you make decisions like that? We’re not sure if he’s going to be there next season. Again, it comes down to ownership and management. That is where this football club is heading right now. I am absolutely heartbroken as a Chelsea player and as a fan,” he added.
