NDA Corruption Trial: Tamale High Court to deliver judgement on April 23

The High Court (Criminal Division) in Tamale is expected to deliver judgment today in the long-running criminal trial involving former officials of the Northern Development Authority (NDA) and others.

The update was announced by the Office of the Special Prosecutor on its official X page on April 23, 2026.

According to the statement, the case The Republic v. Sumaila Abdul Rahman & 3 Others comes to a close after nearly four years of trial.

The accused persons are Sumaila Abdul-Rahman, former Chief Executive Officer of the NDA; Stephen Yir-Eru Engmen; Patrick Seidu; and Andrew Kuundaari.

They are standing trial over alleged corruption and related offences linked to procurement activities under the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme.

During the proceedings, the accused persons filed a submission of no case, arguing that the prosecution had not established sufficient grounds for them to open a defence.

However, the trial court dismissed the application.

The defendants subsequently appealed the ruling at the Court of Appeal, but the appeal was unanimously dismissed, clearing the way for the trial to continue.

With the defence concluded and final addresses filed, the court scheduled April 23, 2026, to deliver its judgment in what has become a closely watched case in Ghana’s anti-corruption efforts.
