The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) has initiated an investigation into a fire incident at the Akosombo Substation, which caused disruptions to power supply in parts of the country.
In a statement issued by GRIDCo, it confirmed that the fire broke out at approximately 2:01 PM on April 23, 2026, affecting operations and power generation at the facility.

According to GRIDCo, emergency response teams were swiftly deployed to the site and are working continuously to assess the situation and implement immediate corrective measures.
The company noted that a full evaluation is currently underway to determine the extent of the damage and guide restoration efforts.
The incident has led to power outages in several areas, although authorities have not yet specified the full scope of affected regions.

GRIDCo assured the public that technical teams are actively working to stabilise the system and restore normal operations as quickly as possible.
“Every effort is being made to manage the situation and minimise disruptions,” the statement said.
The company further urged the public to remain calm, emphasising that the situation is under control and that updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
The cause of the fire has not yet been disclosed.
