Dr Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku is the General Manager for External Communications for ECG
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has ruled out the need for a load-shedding timetable and assured the public that ongoing intermittent power outages will soon be resolved.
Speaking on JoyNews on April 26, 2026, the General Manager for External Communications at the Electricity Company of Ghana, Dr Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, explained that engineers across the power sector are working together to address the challenges.

He noted that the situation is not limited to one institution but involves all key players, including GRIDCO and the Volta River Authority (VRA).
“Our engineers are working assiduously to restore power. In fact, it is not GRIDCO, VRA or ECG alone going through this, but all the players within the sector are going through this and so we are all working together as a sector issue to ensure that this issue will be resolved,” he said.
“It has not been easy, and we do appreciate the patience that our customers have expressed. As we speak, generally, there are pockets of challenges within the network,” Dr Ayiku continued.
Dr Ayiku added that it is too early to consider introducing a load-shedding timetable, stressing that efforts are focused on resolving the problem before such a step becomes necessary.
“It's too early to discuss that. The reason is engineers are working very hard to ensure that even before you think about load shedding, they would have completed the work. Are you getting it? So it's difficult to discuss that. But from the information we've received around 5 a.m. today, everything looks very positive,” he added.
He further acknowledged the scale of the challenge but expressed optimism about the progress made so far.
“Even though the impact is great, I mean, in terms of an entire substation going down, the control system going down, cables and all, we've had a significant progress of work when it comes to the laying of cables and all of that. So there's positive,” he maintained.

“We are optimistic, and it's positive out there. So now we pray and hope that as work progresses, we'll get something positive coming out,” he concluded.
