The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II marked 27 years on the throne
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has marked 27 years on the throne since his enstoolment as King of Asanteman.
Following the celebration of his milestone and achievements, an old video of the Asantehene swearing allegiance and taking the Great Oath during his enstoolment 27 years ago has resurfaced.
Otumfuo recounts how Bono Regional Minister called a judge on a holiday to have people remanded
The video, shared by The Asante Nation on Facebook and sighted by GhanaWeb, captures the historic day in a charged atmosphere, with a large gathering of traditional leaders, elders, and guests dressed in black traditional attire.
A young Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, calm and composed, stood upright with his cloth wrapped around his waist and his chest bare, surrounded by elders as he swore allegiance to the Great Oath (Ntamkese).
The crowd was eager to witness the moment, with many trying to catch a glimpse of the young king, while cameramen and media personnel positioned themselves to record the historic event.
At a point, Otumfuo took a sword and invoked his ancestors, as elders around him and the crowd nodded in approval of his words.
“... Adonteng, Benkum, Oyoko, Nana Asantehemaa, I swear by the Great Oath. I am a descendant of Okyeame Poku, Osei Tutu Bonsu, and Agyemang Pambour; of Nana Agyemang Prempeh, and my uncle, Osei Kyeretwie.

“My brother is Opoku Ware II. If I, Osei Tutu II, do not come to continue the good leadership and legacy of my ancestors for Asanteman, and if I do not lead with honesty and truth in service to Asanteman, then I stand against the Great Oath,” he said in Twi, amid loud cheers and approvals from the elders and the crowd.
