Ken Ofori-Atta is the former Minister of Finance
The former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, is expected to appear before a United States immigration court on June 15, 2026, for a hearing that could influence both his bid to remain in the US and efforts to have him return home to face criminal charges.
Court documents indicate that the case has been set for an individual hearing at 1:00 pm before Judge David A. Gardey at the Annandale Immigration Court in Virginia. The session is expected to take place virtually.
This development follows his release from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody on April 7, 2026, after a court granted him bail of $65,000.

His legal team, Minkah-Premo, Osei-Bonsu, Bruce-Cathline and Partners, confirmed his release at the time, noting that he had reunited with his family.
“Ofori-Atta remains fully committed to using due process to defend his rights as guaranteed under the Constitution and laws of the United States,” the lawyers said in a statement.
The upcoming hearing in June is expected to go beyond earlier procedural sessions, with the court likely to assess the substance of his immigration case and arguments regarding his continued stay in the US.
Ofori-Atta is reported to have entered the US on May 28, 2025, on a visitor’s visa that expired on November 27, 2025.
He allegedly remained in the country beyond the permitted period, leading to his arrest by ICE on January 6, 2026, in Washington, DC.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor has also charged Ofori-Atta, Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML), and six others with corruption and corruption-related offences.
In all, there are 78 counts of corruption and related offences.
The prosecution alleges a long-running conspiracy, described as a “criminal enterprise” from 2017 to 2024, designed to illegally award lucrative government contracts to SML.
