“It is a great privilege to stand before Your Royal Majesty tonight. The President considers this recognition a very special honour,” she said.
Highlighting Otumfuo’s impact, the statement pointed to his mediation in major national conflicts, particularly the Dagbon chieftaincy crisis.
“When the Dagbon chieftaincy crisis threatened to tear this country apart, Your Majesty stepped forward, resulting in the historic enskinment of a new Yaa-Na in January 2019,” she noted.
His continued involvement in the protracted Bawku tensions was also acknowledged.
“Month after month, Your Majesty convened the feuding parties with the same calm and the same refusal to give up on peace.”
According to the President, Otumfuo’s influence transcends traditional boundaries.
“Otumfuo has shown that he does not belong to Ashanti alone. He is a national asset,” she emphasised.
She stressed that the recognition was not about political leadership alone but about collective national values.
“This honour is not about him. It belongs to every Ghanaian who chooses peace over conflict and tolerance over bitterness,” she said.
President Mahama also expressed appreciation to the Asantehene for his decades of service to the country.
“Thank you for 27 years of service that has made this country stronger, more peaceful, and more proud.”
