There is a saying that one man’s meat is another’s poison, and this reflects people’s choices. While many Ghanaians may prefer to seek better opportunities abroad, a US citizen has rather chosen to leave the United States and settle in Ghana.

The Black American woman has shared her experience of living in Ghana, explaining why she has no plans to return to the United States anytime soon.

According to her, in a video shared on X on April 28, 2026, life in Ghana has brought her peace, freedom, and lower living costs compared to what she experienced back home.

She explained that she used to pay about $1,200 monthly for her mortgage in the United States, but since moving to Ghana, she now pays $2,200 for an entire year’s rent, which is far cheaper.

“It's the peace and the freedom here. Like, let's just say at my house in America, I was paying about $1,200 in mortgage. I paid my first year $2,200 for the whole year of my rental. The same size as the house I had in America,” she disclosed in an interview.

She said the cost of housing in Ghana has made a big difference in her life, allowing her to spend more on things she enjoys, instead of worrying about bills.

“And I'm just like this is crazy and I only had to pay it so my money was being able to be spent on things that we wanted to do and different things instead of like, oh, next month I got to pay this bill, I had to do this. I got to do that,” she said.

She also highlighted her proximity to the beach as one of the benefits of living in Ghana.

“Now, I live five minutes walking from the beach. It's the pool, and then it's the road and then the ocean,” she added.

The woman further praised the weather, food, and people in Ghana, describing her overall experience as fulfilling.

“Listen, this is what you get in Ghana, especially in the region. I just can't go back. The weather is perfect all year. The people are nice. The food is real. I can't complain,” she stated.
