Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa is the Minister of Foreign Affairs
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has assured members of the diplomatic corps that Ghana holds no resentment toward countries that opposed or abstained from the recent United Nations resolution declaring transatlantic enslavement as the gravest crime against humanity.
In a Facebook post on May 3, 2026, Ablakwa disclosed that he had convened a briefing with diplomats in Ghana to express appreciation for the support received during the historic vote at the United Nations.
Addressing concerns about Ghana's intended engagement with countries that did not support the resolution, he emphasised the country’s commitment to maintaining strong, cordial diplomatic relations.
“I assured the few who voted against and abstained that the Government of Ghana bears no grudge and does not expect their decisions to undermine our cordial diplomatic relations,” he stated.

He noted that the engagement was held on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama and the people of Ghana to thank countries that backed the resolution.
Ablakwa also extended an invitation to all nations to join a growing global coalition advocating reparatory justice, which currently comprises more than 123 countries, as efforts intensify to address the enduring consequences of transatlantic enslavement.
He further commended the Netherlands and Germany for notifying Ghana of their plans to return artefacts in their possession, describing the move as a step toward cultural restitution and historical justice.
