The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, is embarking on a tour of Sefwi Wiawso and its surrounding areas this morning, May 4, as the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) officially begins nationwide.

The move follows concerns by the Ghana Education Service, which has identified the area as a hotspot for examination malpractices.

The Education Minister’s visit is expected to strengthen monitoring efforts and ensure strict compliance with examination regulations.

The West African Examinations Council has, however, assured the public of its readiness for the exams, which will run from May 4 to May 11, 2026.

A total of 619,985 candidates are sitting for the examination this year, made up of 304,273 males and 315,712 females, indicating a higher number of female candidates.

Authorities say enhanced supervision measures have been put in place nationwide to safeguard the credibility of the examination process.
