Speaking during the 2026 BECE monitoring tour on Monday, May 4, 2026, the minister expressed concern about the rising cases of exam malpractice across the country, indicating that a significant number of candidates were affected last year.
“We are particularly concerned about the growing phenomenon of exam malpractice. Last year, it affected about 178 candidates, and several papers were withheld. In some instances, the papers were cancelled,” he stated.
He noted that some invigilators were directly involved in aiding candidates to cheat, leading to their prosecution.
The minister added that teachers who have been convicted will be taken off the payroll of the GES.
“To our invigilators, we expect nothing short of the highest standard of integrity. Last year, about eight teachers were involved in facilitating cheating, and they have been dealt with in accordance with the law. About eight of them have been convicted and sentenced, and they'll be taken off the payroll of the Ghana Education Service,” he revealed.
He also urged students to uphold honesty and integrity in their academic work, stressing that such values are key to national development.
