The Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI) has arrested four persons linked to Power Distribution Services (PDS) as part of ongoing investigations into the alleged transfer of large sums of money believed to belong to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

The Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, disclosed the development on his Facebook page on Monday, May 4, 2026, as part of an update on the Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) initiative.

‘I cannot pressure the courts to fast-track cases’ - Mahama on delays in ORAL prosecutions

Kwakye Ofosu named the individuals as Philip Ayensu, Viraj Phat, Sophia Korkor, and Justice Menka-Premoh.

“The Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI) arrested the following persons affiliated to PDS last week as part of investigations into the transfer of large sums of money believed to belong to ECG. Philip Ayensu, Viraj Phat, Sophia Korkor, Justice Menka-Premoh,” he said.

He added that the four suspects have been granted bail while investigations continue into the case.

“The quartet have since been given bail pending further investigations,” he disclosed.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that seven cases are currently before the courts, with five more prepared to be filed as investigations continue.

He said the government is taking steps to ensure that the cases are handled without delay, while respecting the independence of the judiciary.

Addressing the issue, the president explained that he cannot interfere in court proceedings due to the principle of separation of powers.

“Investigations are ongoing with about seven cases in court. Once the investigations have been done and taken to court, it is my wish that the cases will be heard and expedited, but I cannot interfere because we have what we call the separation of powers. I am the executive, and they are the judiciary.

‘We have engaged with the Chief Justice to see how best judges can hear the cases without delays and pronounce judgments on them if they are guilty. If they are determined to be not guilty, too, they will allow them to walk freely,” he said.
