The Ghana Education Service (GES) has recorded about 500 anonymous complaints after the first day of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), raising fresh concerns over potential examination malpractices.

According to a May 5, 2026 report by adomonline.com, the complaints were submitted through confidential reporting channels established to flag irregularities during the exams.

GES Public Relations Officer Daniel Fenyi said the reports are currently being assessed, with authorities prepared to sanction individuals found guilty based on verified evidence.

He emphasised that whistleblowers will be protected, assuring that their identities will not be disclosed as their input continues to support monitoring efforts nationwide.

“Those sending the complaints are helping to make the work easy and identity of all the complainants will not be made public,” he said.

Fenyi further clarified that no candidate can be prevented from sitting for the BECE under any circumstance, including unpaid school fees or administrative issues.

He also reaffirmed that pregnancy or lactation does not disqualify candidates, emphasising GES’s commitment to ensuring inclusive access to education.

The public has been encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities via the designated hotlines as monitoring continues.
