Kwame Governs Agbodza is the Minister of Roads and Highways
The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has issued a warning to the contractor for the Sawla–Wa highway that the project will be terminated if delays persist.
He reassured residents of the Upper West Region about the government's commitment to repairing the deteriorating road.
According to a report by myjoyonline.com on May 5, 2026, this assurance came after a meeting in Wa with members of the Concerned Citizens of the Upper West Region, who voiced their frustrations regarding the lack of progress on the project.
The group expressed disappointment over the contractor, Melpouma Limited, for failing to begin work more than six months after the official sod-cutting ceremony.
Abdul Bashit Kombadiana, one of the conveners, noted that residents were disheartened by the ongoing delays, as the road's condition was worsening and negatively impacting both economic activity and travel.
In response to their concerns, Agbodza stated, "The government is not indifferent to the challenges faced by residents."
He revealed that the contractor had been summoned to Accra to demonstrate their commitment to the project.
The minister warned that failure to show sufficient dedication would lead to the termination of the contract.
The Sawla–Wa road is a vital link between the "Savannah and Upper West regions" and has long been a concern for both motorists and local residents due to its poor condition.
