Two firefighters reportedly collapsed from smoke inhalation as they battled raging blaze that destroyed several shops at Adum in Kumasi.

A video shared on the X page of CDR Africa on May 5, 2026, captured the moment.

The firefighters were part of a team from the Ghana National Fire Service responding to the early morning fire, which broke out around 7:00 am on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

Eyewitnesses say thick smoke engulfed the scene as crews worked for hours to prevent the fire from spreading through the busy commercial area.

During the intense operation, two firefighters reportedly collapsed after inhaling heavy smoke and were quickly attended to.

The fire gutted multiple shops, including businesses at the Pat Thomas Phone Shop area, destroying goods worth thousands of Ghana cedis.

Traders say the blaze may have been triggered by erratic power supply, with repeated outages reported earlier in the morning before smoke was seen rising from the building.

Fire tenders were deployed immediately, while traders rushed to salvage their belongings as the flames spread.

Officials from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and police personnel were on the ground to maintain order and assess the damage.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, with traders calling on the Electricity Company of Ghana to address erratic power supply in the area.
