Carlos Queiroz is the new Black Stars coach
Former Asante Kotoko Board Chairman Herbert Mensah has offered a balanced assessment of new Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz, acknowledging the Portuguese tactician's pedigree while noting his less impressive record at the World Cup.
Speaking to Luv FM, Mensah pointed out that Queiroz, who has managed Portugal, Iran and now Ghana at football's biggest tournament, does not boast a standout World Cup history. However, he insisted that this should not diminish the coach's overall expertise.
"He does not have a great record at the World Cup, but that does not mean he's not a very accomplished coach," Mensah stated.
Queiroz has just 46 days to prepare Ghana for its Group L opener against Panama on June 17.
The 73-year-old has until June 1 to submit his final 26-man squad. Mensah believes Queiroz's tactical understanding of tournament terrain could still prove vital, even as he questions the team's overall readiness and stability.
